De muziek van Billy Joel is een integraal onderdeel van de Amerikaanse populaire cultuur. Toch kregen mensen in Rusland pas tegen het einde van de jaren tachtig de kans om zijn nummers te horen, vooral door de grote politieke onrust in die tijd. In 1987 nam Billy Joel een baanbrekende stap door een van de eerste grote artiesten te zijn die daar optrad. Dit bijzondere moment heeft voor hem een diepe persoonlijke betekenis en is uitgebreid vastgelegd in de 'A Matter Of Trust: The Bridge To Russia' Deluxe Edition, die bestaat uit 2 cd's en een dvd.

De cd's bevatten de volledige liveshow, met maar liefst 11 nummers die nog niet eerder zijn uitgebracht. Op de dvd vind je concertbeelden die zijn gerestaureerd van het originele 35 millimeter negatief, plus nog eens 12 optredens die voorheen niet zijn vertoond. Daarnaast is er een documentaire van Jim Brown, die de Sovjettour van Billy in 1987 in beeld brengt, en een boekje met zeldzame foto's en verslagen van belangrijke journalisten. Dit geheel geeft een uniek inzicht in een opmerkelijke tijd in de muziekgeschiedenis.
