When the agenda was cleared by COVID in 2020, our fan base soon began to demand recordings of the covers that we occasionally played live. Unlike our own work, they were nowhere to be found. We thought it would be nice to meet that demand and while writing for our real second album, we dived into the Exalto Studio for one day between all the limitations. In a small setting we recorded eleven songs "live to track". All songs that have a special meaning for one of us, and sometimes even for all three. The whole idea behind Mell & Vintage Future resonates in these recordings. For example, songs from the sixties or seventies to zero's here sound as if they simply belong together in the now. No rich productions this time, but pure live recordings. Drums, foot bass, Hammond, Wurlitzer and a single choir. With of course the fantastic voice of Mell who seems to enter a whole new dimension in these well-known classics. ONLY A FOOL, an all time favorite of Ton, is now sung from a female perspective. PERFECT DAY of Nico's childhood hero Lou Reed found his way to this album through the TV program Linda’s Winter Month. I’D RATHER GO BLIND every soul singer has to do once. Mell: "When I first sang this song I knew what I wanted to be". That way, every track has a load. In March 2020, Nico came up with the idea to loan his Fender Telecaster guitar to Mell. "Here, you have something to do during the lockdown." Mell decided to try her holy grail: GRAVITY by John Mayer. Step by step (plenty of time) the guitar part came to her. Now it is the icing on the cake from ROOTS & ROMANCE. A video registration of this recording will soon appear on our You Tube channel. No, we are not a cover band. Yes, the writing for our new album with own work is in full swing. But at the request of our fans we present proud of our COVID project: ROOTS & ROMANCE.
